加拿大北方森林協議採用FSC作為參考標準

加拿大林業產品協會（FPAC）和九個環保團體正式宣誓合力保護加國超過七千兩百萬公頃的林地管理和保育。
這項意義重大的協議於上個月18日正式宣布，採用FSC作為「既有北方森林環境標準實際運用」的依據，該標準認定FSC是現行森林管理的最高標準。
北方森林系統所管理的林地面積占加拿大土地面積的三成五，及加拿大林地面積的七成五。北方森林系統保護當地原住民的生計、文化和精神，並是提供許多北方社區收入的關鍵來源。這項協議將保護北方森林的一塊區域，提供漿廠不間斷運作所需的必要木材，同時保護當地瀕臨絕種的北美馴鹿。

Canadian Boreal Forest Agreement adopts FSC as the standard of reference
The Forest Products Association of Canada (FPAC) and nine environmental organizations pledged to work together in the responsible management and conservation of more than 72 million hectares of Canada’s boreal forest.
Announced on 18 May, the historic agreement adopts as a reference point “the on-the-ground application of the existing Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) National Boreal Standards” which confirms that FSC standards are the highest social and environmental standards of forest management available.
The boreal forest occupies 35 per cent of the total Canadian land area and 75 per cent of Canada's total forestland. The boreal forest is important for the livelihood, culture and spirituality of Aboriginal Peoples, and provides a critical source of income for many northern communities. The agreement will conserve a significant area of the forest and protect threatened woodland caribou while maintaining essential fiber supplies for uninterrupted mill operations.
